Judaic Studies

Our principle mission is to develop foundational skills within the framework of a strongJudaic Studies curriculum while simultaneously nurturing a passion and love for Torah, mitzvoth, and Am Yisrael. Our curriculum includes Tefilah , Hebrew language skills, Chumash and Rashi, Dinim/Halachah, Navi, Parashat Hashavuah, Yediot Klaliot and Jewish Music.

Tefilah

From the moment they receive their very first siddur in a special first grade chagiga, our students gain fluency praying from their siddur and develop a love for tefillah. They are introduced to the parts of the Tefilot according to their level and are taught not just to say the words, but to truly pray. They are given to understand what they are saying and the specifics of what they are praying for.

Lashon-Ivrit and Dikduk

Students are building their Hebrew language skills following a curriculum incorporating both reading and writing. As our students learn to read print and script letters and practice writing in script, they are simultaneously building up a large bank of milim and shorashim enabling them to understand and develop sentences and thoughts they can both speak and write, becoming confident and fluent in the Hebrew language. Additionally, students are taught the rules of Hebrew grammar, learning more rules each year, to produce a Hebrew that is precise and accurate.

Chumash and Rashi

Our students are trained in many Chumash skills from the beginning of first grade and into the start of second grade, culminating in that poignant moment when they celebrate with a Chagigat Ha’Chumash and start learning Chumash- mitoch hasefer and are able to apply all that they learned. In third grade, students are introduced to Rashi and his explanation of the Torah. Our students develop a love for the study of Torah and the history and formation of the Jewish nation. We follow the sojourn of our avot Avraham, Yitzchak and Yaakov in Chumash Bereshit during second, third and fourth grade, and continue with Moshe Rabenu and Am Yisrael in Sefer Shemot in fifth and sixth grade. By seventh grade our students are following the journey of Am Yisrael in the desert in Sefer Bamidbar and in eighth grade they are learning Sefer Devarim where Moshe Rabeinu is preparing the nation for life in Eretz Yisrael and life without him.

Navi

Fourth and fifth graders study Navi Yehoshuah and Shoftim. Sixth and seventh graders study the prophet Shemuel, learning Sefer Shemuel aleph and bet respectfully, and students in grade eight follow the dynasty of the Jewish kings and learn about the Bet Hamikdash in Melachim. Navi is taught from inside the sefer with a focus on the many great lessons we can take from the great leaders of our nation.

Dinim/Halachah –Laws and Customs

Our students study Sephardic laws and customs for everyday mitzvot, Shabbat, berachot, kibbud horim, Jewish holidays, and more.

Parashat Hashavuah

Students discuss Parashat Hashavuah and learn the stories and mitzvot of the parasha with a primary focus on the takeaway Midot, Mitzvot, and hashkafot, Our goal in learning the parashah is to apply the lessons of our forefathers to our daily life. Our secondary goal is to develop a familiarity with Biblical facts and terms, forming a strong database of Jewish knowledge.

Yediot Klaliot

Students learn and memorize a vast amount of information culled from Tanach, the Oral Torah, and Chazal filling their minds with Jewish stats while developing strong memory muscles.
