Math

Our math curriculum for grades PreK-5th grade focuses on building a strong foundation in number sense, operations, and problem-solving skills. Students start by learning basic counting, addition, and subtraction, progressing to more complex concepts like place value, multi-digit operations, and word problems. As they advance through the grades, they develop a deeper understanding of multiplication, division, fractions, and decimals, while continuously applying these skills to solve real-life problems. Our curriculum is designed to foster critical thinking and ensure that students are well-prepared for future mathematical challenges. In middle school, our math curriculum continues to build on foundational skills and introduces more advanced concepts. In 6th grade, students focus on fractions, ratios, and word problems, applying these concepts across various topics. In 7th grade, they deepen their understanding of ratios, percentages, roots, and graphing, while honing their problem-solving abilities. By 8th grade, students explore more complex topics such as polynomials, exponents, and advanced graphing techniques, preparing them for high school-level math. Throughout all grades, students are encouraged to apply their learning to real-world situations and develop strong analytical skills.

English Language Arts

In our ELA curriculum for the younger grades, we focus on developing essential reading and writing skills. In Pre-K, the emphasis is on learning at least 100 sight words, mastering letter sounds, and blending letters (like PL, FL, and CL). Students also begin to read simple sentences and explore emotional comprehension of stories through pictures. In 1st grade, the focus shifts to phonics, sentence formation, and comprehension, as students learn to blend sounds and answer questions about stories. From 2nd through 5th grades, students expand their vocabulary with 8 to 16 new words weekly and 12 new spelling words. They read stories using these words and learn grammar concepts such as nouns, verbs, and sentence structure. Each grade also tackles novels like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Number the Stars and works on book reports and writing exercises using the five W's to create structured paragraphs. Our goal is to develop strong reading comprehension, writing, and critical thinking skills in every student. In middle school, our ELA curriculum emphasizes deeper learning and comprehension skills. In 6th, 7th, and 8th grades, students read increasingly complex texts, working on enhancing their comprehension and analytical skills. Grammar is integrated into every grade through the Wonders program, where students start by learning sentence types, verbs, noun usage, and recognizing run-on sentences. As they progress, students continue to build on these foundational skills, ensuring they are able to read, understand, and analyze a wide variety of texts while refining their writing abilities.

Social Studies

In the lower grades, our social studies curriculum focuses on building an understanding of the world around students. In Pre-K through 2nd grade, students explore topics such as families, neighborhoods, communities, societies, and countries, while also learning about community helpers. In 3rd grade, the focus shifts to learning about different nations, including China, and understanding cultural differences. 4th grade students dive into the study of New York, exploring its population, geography, and culture. In 5th grade, students focus on learning about the history and structure of our nation, gaining a foundational understanding of the United States. In middle school, our social studies curriculum focuses on American history and its evolution. In 6th grade, students study the foundational aspects of our nation, exploring its early development. In 7th grade, the focus shifts to the history of the United States from the 1800s through the Civil War, examining key events and figures. In 8th grade, students continue their historical journey from the Civil War to the present, gaining a deeper understanding of how America has grown and changed over time. This curriculum ensures that students build a comprehensive knowledge of U.S. history. In our science curriculum, we focus on building a strong understanding of environmental concepts and problem-solving skills across all grade levels. In the lower grades, students engage in hands-on projects that develop their knowledge of the environment and help them understand key scientific principles. As students progress to the upper grades, the curriculum shifts to a greater focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), with an emphasis on engineering concepts. This approach ensures that students gain both a solid foundation in scientific knowledge and practical skills for the future.
