Boys: Pre-1A – Grade 4

Tefila

At our school, Tefila is a central focus in the development of our younger students, beginning in Pre-1-A. Early on, students learn the Birchot Hashachar, and each child receives their very own Siddur. As they progress each year, new tefilot are introduced, along with their meanings, allowing the students to deepen their connection to the prayers. By teaching the significance of each tefila, we help our students build a personal and meaningful relationship with Hashem. Our Rabbis also ensure that Tefila is taught in a way that aligns with the melodies used on Shabbat in Shul. This approach not only enhances the students' understanding of the prayers but also enriches their spiritual experience, fostering a deeper sense of connection to the Jewish tradition. The importance of Tefila in a child's education extends beyond religious practice—it cultivates discipline, reflection, and a sense of community. It encourages students to take ownership of their spiritual development while instilling values of gratitude, reverence, and mindfulness. Through Tefila, we nurture not only the intellectual growth of our students but also their emotional and spiritual well-being, preparing them for a life of meaningful Jewish practice and connection.

Keriah

From the moment our students begin in Pre-1-A, we focus on building a strong foundation in the Hebrew language, starting with reviewing the letters of the Alef-Bet. As students progress each year, we emphasize both accuracy and fluency, ensuring that they master each letter before moving on to more advanced concepts. Our approach is designed to build upon what was learned previously, reinforcing and expanding their knowledge as they grow. To cater to the individual needs and learning styles of each student, we have Keriah groups in every grade, allowing for targeted instruction based on each boy's specific level. This personalized approach ensures that all students receive the support they need to succeed. For those who require additional help, we offer one-on-one tutoring, providing tailored attention to help them overcome challenges and build confidence in their learning. This structured and supportive environment fosters a love of learning while promoting academic and personal growth. By focusing on mastery at each stage, we help our students develop the skills, confidence, and discipline they need to excel in their Hebrew studies and beyond.

Chumash

Starting in first grade, we introduce our students to the power and depth of Chumash with a special Hatchalat Chumash presentation, which includes the participation of parents and grandparents. This meaningful event marks the beginning of their journey, laying the foundation for a lifelong relationship with the Torah. As students progress through the grades, we focus on skill-based learning while continuously expanding their knowledge of Chumash Melim and Shorashim. This approach equips our students with the essential tools needed to read, understand, and learn Chumash independently. By building fluency and comprehension year after year, we empower our students to engage with the text on a deeper level. The study of Chumash goes beyond just academic learning—it serves as a guide for personal development and future decision-making. By gaining insight into the stories, values, and lessons of the Torah, students develop a strong moral compass, which will shape their choices and actions as they grow into responsible, thoughtful adults. Through Chumash, we not only prepare our students for academic success but also help them cultivate the critical thinking, ethical grounding, and spiritual awareness necessary to navigate the challenges and decisions they will face in life.

Mishna

In 4th grade, our students embark on an important milestone in their Jewish education by beginning their study of Mishnayot. This marks a significant stepping stone in their journey toward mastering Gemarah. During this year, they focus on Masechet Berachot and Masechet Sukkah, where they not only learn the texts but also engage with the deeper meanings and applications of the teachings. To make their learning experience more interactive and memorable, our students participate in a Sukkah Fair before transitioning into the study of Gemarah in 5th grade. This hands-on event helps solidify their understanding of the Sukkah and its significance in Jewish life, reinforcing both the practical and spiritual aspects of the mitzvah. The study of Mishnah plays a crucial role in the intellectual and moral development of our students. It fosters critical thinking, as they learn to analyze texts, explore different interpretations, and connect ancient teachings to modern-day challenges. Moreover, the Mishnah prepares students for the complexities of Gemarah, strengthening their ability to think logically, debate respectfully, and approach problems with a structured mindset. As our students move forward into the world of Gemarah, they are equipped with not only academic skills but also the ethical foundation and intellectual curiosity that will guide their personal and spiritual growth throughout their lives.

Lashon

We prioritize student development by focusing on both Chumash and Lashon Hakodesh, emphasizing its intricate usage and structure. Through our comprehensive 4-series workbook, students gain mastery in dissecting each Hebrew word, an essential skill not only for understanding Chumash but also for a deeper grasp of the Hebrew language as a whole. This approach provides the boys with a solid foundation, enhancing their ability to engage with text and foster a greater appreciation for their learning.

Ketiva

We focus on equipping our students with the skills to write confidently in both Hebrew script and Rashi letters. Beyond teaching the mechanics of writing, we emphasize the development of good writing habits, dedicating one-on-one time to ensure their writing is neat and precise. This personalized attention helps instill a strong foundation for their future academic success, encouraging both mastery of the language and pride in their work.

Halacha

Our students are deeply taught the Halachot and Sefardic Minhagim of each Yom Tov, ensuring they understand the traditions and practices that shape our Jewish life. In addition, we cover a wide range of essential Halachot that apply to daily living, including Hilchot Tefila, Tzitzit, Berachot, Shabbat, and many other topics. This comprehensive approach helps students develop a well-rounded understanding of Jewish law, fostering a sense of responsibility and connection to their heritage.

Ta’amim

Under the guidance of Rabbi Jack Bassoul, our students begin learning and reading the Ta’amim in 2nd grade, developing the skills to read them as they are chanted in the Torah. This foundational instruction not only strengthens their understanding of the text but also prepares them to participate in youth minyanim across various shuls in the community. Through this hands-on experience, our boys gain confidence and a deeper connection to the rhythm and tradition of Torah reading.

Extracurricular Programs

At our Yeshiva, we offer a wide range of extracurricular programs to keep our students engaged and inspired. These include monthly Middot programs, Erev Shabbat Pizmonim gatherings, a Torah Fair, Father-and-Son breakfasts, special trips, holiday learning incentives, and much more. Through these activities, we create a vibrant and positive atmosphere that encourages our boys to look forward to performing Avodat Hashem with excitement and enthusiasm.

Boys: Grades 5–8

Tefila

In middle school, our focus shifts to preparing students for their Bar Mitzvah, ensuring they feel confident taking on the role of Chazan. We provide comprehensive training to make sure they are well-prepared to lead services, whether in school or at any of our community shuls. Our boys participate in three daily Minyanim—Shacharit, Mincha, and Arvit (when applicable)—instilling a strong sense of responsibility and helping them grow in their spiritual development and leadership.

Gemarah

Our Gemarah curriculum is built around three main goals to foster deep understanding and skill development:

  1. Building a Strong Vocabulary: Starting in 5th grade, we focus on expanding students’ word banks with common Shas terms. This vocabulary grows through 8th grade, with consistent review each year to ensure retention and mastery.
  2. Fluent Reading: We emphasize the ability to read the Gemarah fluently and accurately, ensuring that students become comfortable navigating through the text with ease.
  3. Havanah (Understanding): Our goal is to cultivate a deep understanding and critical thinking process, empowering students to grasp and navigate any Sugya they encounter. This focus helps them develop the skills to independently learn and analyze complex Talmudic discussions.

These foundational elements ensure that our students are well-equipped to engage with and understand Gemarah on a meaningful level.

Chumash

In addition to continuing the study of the Parashiot in order, we shift to learning Parashat HaShavua inside the Chumash. This progression builds on the foundational skills students acquired in earlier grades, enabling them to engage with the text on a deeper level. As they apply their growing knowledge of the language and concepts, they develop stronger reading comprehension, critical thinking, and a more meaningful connection to the weekly Torah portion.

Halacha

In addition to a consistent review of previous years' material, we dive deeper into key Halachic topics such as the 39 Melachot of Shabbat, Hilchot Tefilin, and Yediot Klaliyot. Our Halacha Yomi class with Rabbi Avi Setton, held daily after Shacharit, offers students the opportunity to explore a broad range of Halachic topics. This daily learning fosters a deep understanding of Jewish law, helping students build a solid foundation for applying Halacha in their daily lives.

Taamim

Under the guidance of Rabbi Jack Bassoul, our students elevate their Torah reading skills to the next level. We have a rotating group of students who actively participate in Keriat HaTorah on Mondays and Thursdays at school, as well as in shuls on Shabbat. In addition, we teach the texts of Megilat Esther, Megilat Rut, and the proper Ta’amim for Tehilim, ensuring that students develop a strong connection to these key readings and the traditions surrounding them. This approach fosters confidence, fluency, and a deeper appreciation for the sacred texts.

Navi

In middle school, we focus on studying Yehoshua and Shoftim, which are crucial for both academic and personal development. This subject provides a unique opportunity for our Rebbes to impart valuable Hashkafa and life perspectives through the lessons we learn from the Nevi’im. By connecting the teachings of the Prophets to real-life situations, students not only deepen their understanding of Jewish history but also develop a strong moral and spiritual framework that will guide them throughout their lives.

Extracurricular Programs

We host a variety of exciting events throughout the year, including monthly Rosh Chodesh celebrations and a large-scale Torah Fair with five engaging exhibits:

  • 39 Melachot
  • Navi
  • Mishkan
  • Sukkah
  • 10 Makot

In addition, we organize Student Bar Mitzvah events, trips, Shabbatonim, and many other enriching activities. These events are designed to deepen students’ connection to Torah and Jewish tradition while fostering a vibrant, community-oriented atmosphere.
